94% Delhi University seats taken, colleges may not release sixth cutoff

Delhi University colleges released the fifth cutoff list for admissions on Monday, which saw most sought-after colleges close admissions to popular course choices.

By the end of the first day of admissions under the fifth cutoff list, almost 94% of seats have been filled at Delhi University, and most sought after colleges may not issue any additional cutoff lists.

Out of the approximately 50,000 seats that are available for merit-based undergraduate courses, admissions to almost 47,000 seats were confirmed by the end of the day on Monday.

At Miranda House, almost 996 seats of the available 1,000 have been filled. “Looks like we are done with admissions. Most of our courses look like they maybe either closed, or we have already had over-admission. Even if we do have a few seats remaining, it would only be a seat or two for the general category students of English and Sociology (hons) programmes, and the other remaining seats would be for reserved categories,” said Pratibha Jolly, the principal.

Even at colleges like the Daulat Ram College, which had 10 courses out of their available 18 still open for admissions under the fifth list, are not expected to release a sixth one. “Almost all our seats are already filled. In fact, we have had some over-admission by dropping the cutoffs by just a mark or two,” said Savita Roy, the principal.

Ramjas College, which was one of the few well known colleges which still had seats available for Economics (Hons) and BA Programme, has already admitted almost 1,500 students to their available 1,500 seats. The remaining seats are also expected to be filled by the end of the fifth cycle of admissions on Wednesday, according to their principal PC Tulsian.
