Four Metro lines to reach Delhi airport for a smooth travel

Terminal 3 has a Metro station on the Airport Express line. Currently, passengers have to take feeder bus from Aerocity Metro station to reach Terminal 1. The new Metro link will bring Noida and West Delhi localities closer to the airport.

By 2020, the Delhi airport will have four Metro lines catering to its whopping annual passenger traffic of 100 million.

Terminal 3 has a Metro station on the Airport Express line. Currently, passengers have to take feeder bus from Aerocity Metro station to reach Terminal 1. The new Metro link will bring Noida and West Delhi localities closer to the airport.

In the past six years, Delhi airport’s passenger traffic has doubled but only one Metro line carries 50,000 passengers to it daily.

By the end of this year, Terminal 1 of Delhi airport, from where low cost domestic carriers operate, will have a Metro station. The 34.2-km-long Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor of Metro’s phase 3 will have a station at Terminal 1.

Passengers boarding from Noida will reach airport in just 35 minutes.

Residents of south Delhi areas such as Vasant Vihar, Munirka, Kalkaji, Hauz Khas, RK Puram and Greater Kailash will have direct Metro connectivity to the airport while those coming from Faridabad can change for the airport line at Kalkaji and those coming from Gurgaon side will have the interchange station at Hauz Khas.

Apart from this, the Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar line, which is also part of phase-III and likely to be operational by March 2018, will have a station at Dhaula Kuan. This station will be connected with the Dhaula Kuan station of Airport Line through a footover bridge.

“In Phase IV, a 20-km-long corridor between Terminal 1 and Tughlakabad Metro stations will go through areas such as Sangam Vihar, Saket, Mehrauli, Vasant Kunj and Mahipalpur of South Delhi. Passengers travelling on ITO-Faridabad line will have the option to take the Metro from Tughlakabad while passengers on Gurgaon line can board the train from Saket,” said a DMRC official.

The Haryana government has also proposed a line which will connect IFFCO Chowk station of HUDA city center- Samai Pur Badli line and Dwarka Sector 21 on the Airport line.
