A Delhi family recently landed in trouble at the Delhi airport when one of them, apparently irritated by frisking, uttered the word ‘bomb’ .

The woman shouted at the staff, saying “Check kar lo, mere paas koi bomb thode he hai” (Check me, I am not carrying a bomb’).

The woman passenger was detained by security personnel and questioned for hours before she was allowed to continue her journey.

Sources at the airport said that the woman shouted at the staff, saying “Check kar lo, mere paas koi bomb thode he hai” (Check me, I am not carrying a bomb’).

“Our female sub-inspector, who was frisking her, immediately called her seniors. She was subjected to pat down search and her baggage was scanned thoroughly. But nothing suspicious was found,” said an officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who is not authorised to speak to the media.

CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said,”It happened on October 1 at 6 am when the woman, along with her parents and sister, was travelling to Leh by a Jet airways flight,” he said.

“The assistant commandant was called, who questioned her at length. She seemed to be frustrated by the frisking. Her parents regretted her behaviour and gave a written apology. After that, they were allowed to travel,” another officer added.

As Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel were also present, the remark was treated as a ‘possible threat’ and the man and the co-passenger were taken back to the terminal. The aircraft was checked for explosives and departed 90 minutes late.

The CISF, which maintains security of airports, said they have to take such incidents seriously.

‘Security of airport is of utmost important and such instances are treated as possible threat. The security personnel has to be confident that passenger is not a threat to other passengers,” the officer added.
