Kabir, an exhibition in the Capital to spread the message of peace and harmony

Art exhibition Kabir hopes to spread not jut love for art but also peace, harmony and unity.

To spread the message of peace, secularity and harmony, Delhi-based curator Erum Khan is organising an art exhibition, Kabir, in the Capital. The group art exhibition aims to put limelight on the unheard artists, too.

“We are displaying the artworks of around 35 artists in the gallery. Besides showcasing the paintings of some prominent artists, we are trying to bring out the hidden art from different parts of the country,” says Khan. Artists from 15 states of India are visiting the capital to participate in the group show.

Among the major attractions of the exhibition is a portrait of Kabir by artist Hena Chakraborty. “The portrait of Kabir showcases his secular nature. He was bred by a Muslim family. After his death, Hindus and Muslims started fighting with each other over his body and then he showed his magic. He turned himself into a flower with a message Ram Rahim, Krishan Karim. Through the painting, I want to do the same -fade out the differences,” says Chakraborty, a Raja Ravi Verma awardee, who has been painting for the past 45 years.

This artwork will be showcased at the group show.

The exhibition will also have 68-year-old Asha Singh showcase her work. The Hyderabad-based artist says, “After my husband’s death, paintings gave me a new life. It’s a sort of rebirth for me and this is the first time, my artworks will be displayed. I am really excited about the upcoming show and hope that it will give me an identity.”
