Staging of the play Mughal-e-Azam extended for one more week on public demand

A grand stage musical based on the 1960’s classic film Mughal-e-Azam, is being staged in the Capital since the last two weeks.

After the grand success and back to back full house of the theatrical show, Mughal-e-Azam, the team has decided to extend the dates and stage it for another week in Jawaharlal Nehru auditorium, Delhi.

“We didn’t expect that the show will be so successful. We faced the issue of a finding a proper theatre in Delhi and then decided to turn the auditorium into one. There were chances that people would not like it because it is difficult to create that ambience in an auditorium. But, we took the risk and proceeded. After the screening of first show, the response was commendable and therefore we decided to extend the show by another week,” says Deepesh Salgia,creative and strategic vision of this play.

Salgia is also credited for converting the 1960’s black and white classic by filmmaker K Asif, into a colour film. Talking about this, he says, “When we asked people if the coloured print of the movie will work or not, 90% said no. But when we showed them the coloured images, the response was the opposite. I think it is the love story that attracts the audience.” Shapoorji Pallonji have produced the movie and this time gain, they have produced this play, taking ahead the legacy.

Delhiites are overwhelmed that the show has been extended. Ramita Khanna, a professor in a private college says, “I was out of town and therefore missed the play. But thank god, they have extended the dates and I have already booked the show for Saturday. It will be an amazing experience for sure.”

The artists of the show are equally joyous. Neha Sargam, one of the Anarkalis of the play, says, “There’s a certain affinity that I have for Delhi and it was wonderful to perform for Delhiites. They are very warm and they have a brilliant understanding of the dialogues.”
