GURGAON: Member of a cow protection group was shot at allegedly when he tried to stop a vehicle reportedly carrying cows for slaughter at Nanu Khod village in Gurgaon on Saturday.

Amit Kumar’s fingers were reportedly injured in the incident.

Kumar said he and Goraksha Dal Gurgaon members spotted two vehicles — one carrying cows and the other escorting the first one — coming from Mewat side, police said

When they tried to stop the vehicle carrying the cows, a person in the second vehicle shot at him and sped away.

The group members met deputy commissioner of police Balwan Singh Rana and demanded presence of more police on routes suspected to be used by cow smugglers.

Investigating officer assistant sub inspector Ashok Kumar said a case for voluntarily hurting with weapons, attempt to murder and sections under the Arms Act was registered against unidentified people.

He said they were yet to verify whether vehicle carried cows.

The incident occurred a day after two people, including a Bajrang Dal activist were allegedly shot at when they tried to stop cow smugglers on the Kundali-Manesar-Palwal expressway on Friday night.

In the incident, Gurgaon convenor of Bajrang Dal Abhishek Goud was hit by a bullet in the abdomen while Harpal Singh was hit in the hand.
