After South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), now the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to switch to LED street lights.

Municipal officials said that while the corporation has already initiated the process to replace the conventional lights to LED, the north Delhi municipal area would require approximately two lakh lights.
“We have invited companies from across the country for this project and it will be based on ESPC model. The cost of the entire project is likely to be around Rs 336.69 core and would be completed within six months,” said a senior municipal official.
ESPC model is an energy saving contract, as per which the contracting company achieves energy savings for the contractor. The model guarantees savings for a set period of time in exchange for payment from the energy cost savings.
