Police said Nitin Singhal, 22, was waylaid and stabbed by two men with whom he had fallen-out some days ago.

"Singhal was returning home after closing his cosmetics shop when the duo stopped and attacked him with sharp weapons. Hearing his cries for help, locals gathered at the spot and caught one of the assailants," said an officer.

Police identified the assailant as Rizwan (23) after angry onlookers thrashed him before handing him over to the police.

Singhal was rushed to the adjacent Metro Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

"We are looking for his associate Amjad (22) who managed to escape from the spot," the officer said.
