6 OC officials, 2 private firms named in 12th CWG FIR

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing alleged corruption in the conduct of Commonwealth Games (CWG) last October, on Friday registered a First Information Report (FIR) over alleged irregularities in the award of licence for supplying merchandise and apparels including sportswear and casual wear.

The CBI FIR, 12th since the agency began probing the scam late last year, has named as accused six senior Organising Committee (OC) officials and two private firms — Compact Disc India Limited and its associate firm Premier Brand Private Limited (PBPL).

The OC officials named by the FIR are director general VK Verma, joint director general (finance) M Jeychandran, additional director general (Image and Looks) Sangeeta Welingkar, additional director general KUK Reddy, deputy director general (legal) Ram Mohan and deputy director general (procurement) Surjit Lal.

Showing undue favours to PBPL, the OC officials had appointed it as the "official Master Licensee for Merchandising and Online and Retail Concessionaire for CWG 2010 against a minimum royalty amount of Rs 7.05 crore," according to the FIR.

Kalmadi, who was sent to Tihar jail under judicial custody on May 4 along with two others, moved the bail application in a CBI court and the judge listed the matter for hearing on May 9.
