BJP at the receiving end from Gujjars in Ghaziabad

The Gujjar community in Ghaziabad has decided to not vote for the BJP candidate from the constituency, to protest the violent crackdown against Gujjar agitators in Rajasthan during BJP’s rule there, reports Piyush Khandelwal.

BJP’s National President Rajnath Singh is contesting from the Ghaziabad Lok Sabha seat.

On Tuesday, members of the community marched through Ikla, Inayatpur, Nagla, Mubarikpur and Chauna areas of Ghaziabad before gathering for a meeting in Dasna.

“We are totally against the BJP and its candidate Rajnath Singh. We will not support the candidate from Ghaziabad as our wounds of the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan have not healed. The merciless killings ordered by (former Rajasthan chief minister) Vasundhara Raje’s government have turned us against BJP,” said Tikam Nagar, convener of Gurjar Vikas Parishad that organised the protest.

The protesters claimed Ghaziabad constituency had around 2 lakh voters. BJP’s state unit spokesperson Narendra Rana refused to comment on the issue.
