The BJP stalled proceeding in Lok Sabha over forceful allocation of land to Rajiv Gandhi Education Society in Haryana and asked the centre to issue an advisory to all states to stop land acquisition till the new legislation is passed by Parliament.
"The government should bring the land acquisition bill in Parliament in this session itself and not delay it further. Also the Centre should issue an advisory to all state governments that till this Bill is passed all land acquisition should be stopped," former BJP president Rajnath Singh said during zero hour.
Before Singh spoke, the BJP members forced adjournment of Lok Sabha as the speaker Meira Kumar did not agree with their suggestion to suspend the question hour.
The second adjournment came when Congress members stood up in protest against Singh’s allegation that the land was forcefully allocated to Rajiv Gandhi Education Society in Ullahawas village in Haryana.
Singh also said that injustice was being done by the state governments in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra by acquiring land for builders.
"In Ullahawas, I met farmers who said in 2005-06, land was acquired with just Rs 12.5 Lakh compensation per acre and given to the Rajiv Gandhi Education Society," Singh said. Asked about the cost of this land, he said it had been rated at Rs 5-10 Crore per acre.
