CBI submits witnesses’ statements in court

The CBI has submitted the status report before a city court recording statements of witnesses as evidence, in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case allegedly involving former Union minister Jagdish Tytler.

The investigating agency also informed the court that a final report would be filed within a month.

“We will submit a final report on the entire investigations in a month,” the CBI counsel submitted before additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rakesh Pandit on Saturday. The CBI also filed the statement of 10 more witnesses in the case along with two more documents. The court fixed the matter for further hearing on March 28.

HS Phoolka, senior counsel for Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee told the magistrate that the court had directed the CBI to further investigate the case against Tytler in December 2007, by the court, which had rejected its closure report.

“The CBI is delaying the matter. One of the witnesses Gurcharan Singh who received severe burn injuries during the riots died last week without recording his statement” Phoolka said.
