Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan on Tuesday skirted answers on honour killings ordered by khap panchayat (caste council) saying law does not prompt or prohibit love relationship.

"Such cases might come before the court..... There are certain prohibited relationships in Hindu Marriage Act. You are youngsters.
"It is not law that prompts one to get into love relationswhip. Once we are in love, obviously they don't mind personal law. So, law amended or not... these are social issues and opinions vary from people to people", he told mediapersons in response to a query.
The outoging CJI's remarks comes in backdrop of a number of honour killings and some political leaders seeking amendment to the Hindu Marriage Act to ban marriages within the same"gotra" (sub caste).
