"We demand from the government to bring down the prices of petrol and diesel," party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters in New Delhi.

He was replying to questions whether the government is waiting for the Lok Sabha elections to get nearer to announce the price cut to have electoral advantage.

"The Petroleum Minister has already announced that the prices would come down," Ahmed said, adding it had nothing to do with the elections.

"We want the prices of not only petrol and diesel but also other commodities to come down. Prices have already come down and inflation is much lower," the spokesman said.
