Court asks for Dikshit's medical records

Delhi chief minister Shiela Dikshit was on Friday directed by a court to submit medical records related to her treatment after she sought an exemption from appearing in person before it in connection to a defamation case. Dikshit had filed the case against former city BJP chief Vijender Gupta.

Metropolitan magistrate Namrita Aggarwal, apparently annoyed by the submission of Dikshit’s counsel Mehmood Pracha who said that the chief minister had not able to appear before the court as she was undergoing treatment, said all medical documents should be placed before the court on April 27, the next date of hearing.

The court, allowing Dikshit an exemption for a day only, also stated that Friday had been set as a date of hearing after the chief minister’s assurance that she would appear before it in person.

Dikshit had two days back visited a city hospital for a health check up, five months after she had underwent an angioplasty.On February 18, the court had asked the chief minister to “positively” appear before it on either of three dates April 4, 5 or 6 as per a submission made by Dikshit counsel.Dikshit, through her counsel on February 18, had also sought exemption from personal appearance on the ground that she had prior engagements at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

While allowing Gupta’s plea, the court asked him to be present before it on April 27.
