Cricket stars to push for MCD’s clean Delhi plan

If all goes as per MCD’s plans, Delhi-based cricketers Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will soon appeal to Delhiites to help keep the city clean.

If all goes as per MCD’s plans, Delhi-based cricketers Virender Sehwag, Ishant Sharma, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir will soon appeal to Delhiites to help keep the city clean. The MCD hopes that by roping in these stars, Delhiites will be motivated to help clean up the city before the Commonwealth Games 2010.

“I had proposed involving cricketers in our sanitation campaign as they are icons and Delhiites will be more inspired if the cricketers appeal to them. I have already spoken to Ishant. We will use all possible mediums to reach out to the people so that we leave a good impression on the tourists visiting the city in October,” Subhash Arya, leader of the MCD house, said.

Some time back, Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain had launched a campaign against spitting, urinating and littering in public places. The campaign was meant to embarrass Delhiites indulging in such violations by callign them “su-su kumar, thu-thu kumar, kuda kumar, poly aunty” among others.

Advertisements were created and nearly 600 signboards were prepared and put up across the city. However, the campaign failed.
