DMK MP Kanimozhi said all parties in Tamil Nadu were asking the government to vote for the resolution.
“It is really good that India has supported it,” Kanimozhi said.
She said it was important that international law was also followed.
“You can't just have distinction between friendly and unfriendly country. There is something called justice,” she said.
“Most important thing is making sure Tamils get their rights, rehabilitation happens and there is justice against human rights violations.”
Asked who deserves credit for the government's decision, she said: “Credit goes to everybody who asked, and our leader (Karunanidhi).”
