"The gruesome incident of December 16 is a symptom of a cancer taking deep roots in India, where the rule of law exists only for a privileged class including politicians, civil servants and the rich and famous," Trivedi said in a letter to the Prime Minister.

The need of the hour is to recognize that somewhere we have failed to live up to the expectations of the founding fathers of our great democracy, Trivedi said.
