DU students union calls college play 'anti-Hindu, seeks ban

Union controlled by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad writes letter to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College.

The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) has written to a college in the Capital, asking the institution to ban a play for being anti-Hindu, igniting a storm on social media with the union's letter going viral on the web.

The letter was sent by DUSU president Mohit Nagar on March 17 to the principal of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College against the college's theatre society Ankur. The union is controlled by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the RSS.

The letter asks the college to ban the play with immediate effect as it was allegedly against Hinduism and portrayed the religion in poor light, threatening to protest if the college didn't take action.

"The drama society is showing inhumanity by presenting a fake drama on Hindu and Hinduism," a snapshot of the letter on social media said. The play is titled "Welcome to the machine" and is written and directed by students of the college.

"It is very surprising that the play which has been performed 36 times across Delhi is being asked to be banned. The principal just handed me this letter and I am pretty sure the college will not ban us," he said.
