In the first round of admissions, there were few takers for courses such as Economics (hons) at Hindu College or Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) whose cut-offs had soared up to 98%. Political Science at Kirori Mal College, where the cut-off was 98%, had no takers in the general category.

However, other programmes such as Psychology (hons) at LSR, despite a 98% cut-off for general category, are full.“Across courses the cut-off will come down by 0.5- 3%. So, students need not worry,” said Savita Roy, principal, Daulat Ram College.

At Indraprastha College for Women too, there have only been 68 admissions out of the total 785 seats.

“We have made good progress so far, but the second cut-off list is certainly going to come down. Students just need to have some patience,” said Babli Moitra Saraf, principal, IP College.

Malay Neerav, joint dean (students welfare) and media co-ordinator, DU, said colleges should have avoided such high first cut-offs.

“A formula of rationalisation should have been adopted, whereby 7-8 colleges could never have the same cutoff. To avoid trouble for the candidates based on this experience, a prudent decision must be taken about the second cutoffs,” he said.
