The Delhi Fire Service is all set to import the latest 'snorkel' fire tender worth about Rs three crore as part of its preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010.

Official sources said the machine, which has the capacity of going up to 60 metres or about 20 floors, is being purchased from Finland and is expected to join the fire tender fleet within next two-three months.
They said a three-member team is expected to go to Helsinki in Finland this month to inspect the vehicle and to
suggest any modifications if needed.
The Department is presently using three such machines, which are stationed at its different strategic divisions, with the capacity to tackle fire in up to 60 metre tall buildings.
Since the construction of multi-storeyed apartments is on the rise in the national capital, it is essential to have another additional vehicle to tackle any untoward incidents of fire," a source said.
They said the vehicle will have hydraulic-powered steps equipped with state-of-the-art modern platform to carry around 15 people.
