Dogged by early glitches and teething problems, the Delhi Metro’s line from Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar finally began functioning on Sunday morning.

It carried more than 30,000 people to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the venue of the opening ceremony on the first day, thereby emerging the main mode of public transport for reaching the spot.
There were initial technical problems related to signaling and overhead electrification.
“More than 300 people from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) operations and maintenance wing worked under the direct supervision of Managing Director E. Sreedharan to ensure there were no major delays in the services,” a spokesperson for DMRC said.
Sreedharan even personally monitored the movement of the train from his office.
The Metro has brought South Korean and German experts to avoid glitches on this corridor since the line connects 10 of the 11 Games venues.
