Rehan, 25, was allegedly involved in 18 cases of murder, attempt to murder and extortion. He was arrested near Shanti Van in Central Delhi.
“We have recovered a 9mm pistol and two live cartridges from his possession,” said Arun Kampani, deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell).
The police said he is a history sheeter and has several cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, snatching, hurt, criminal intimidation and house trespassing. He was also booked under the Arms Act earlier.
On March 21, Rehan escaped from police custody as soon as the jail van arrived at the Tis Hazari Complex.
The 3rd Battalion of Delhi Police was transporting him to the court. Rehan was arrested three months back and was brought to the court in connection with a murder case.
“We were investigating the case of his escapade. We learnt that he has been threatening a rich businessmen in the Walled City area,” said Kampani. While monitoring the activities of his associates, it was learnt that Rehan after his escape from police custody has been frequently changing his hideouts and was moving in the areas of Walled City, Trans Yamuna and South Delhi.
Police received information about Rehan’s movements in Laxmi Nagar on Thursday but could not trace him. On Friday afternoon he was spotted near Shanti Van and arrested.
