P Patra (48), who was recovering in the resuscitation room of the hospital's trauma block, died of cardiac arrest around 7pm, doctors said.

"The victim suffered a heart attack around 6.30pm. We managed to stabilise him, but a few minutes later he got another attack and did not survive this one," said one of the doctors treating him.

Patra, a resident of south Delhi’s Lodhi Road, had been operated upon for multiple injuries on his lower leg on Wednesday night following the powerful blast earlier during the day.

According to doctors, he was recovering well post-surgery.

"He was doing absolutely fine before the massive heart attacks. We did conduct certain tests to ascertain the cause of his death but nothing conclusive was revealed. Only a forensic examination will be able to tell why he suffered a cardiac arrest," said a doctor.

The police will take a call when the body is sent for postmortem on Friday.

The victim’s family and friends were shocked with his death because Patra is doing fine before that.
