While many might love to shake a leg to mainstream Bollywood music in the city, forms like hip hop have many takers, too. Or if you want to participate in some high-energy activities such as rapping, B-boying, graffiti, and more. If you are one of those who love the form, you’ll be delighted to hear that some of the best hip hop artists from around the globe will be in the Capital, with an impressive lineup of activities.

Brainchild of 22-year-old Aastik Tewatia, this fest, The Delhi Funk Circle, saw a humble start in 2013 with just 25 participants. However, it has grown to become an event that now has a following of thousands. “Being a hip hop artist myself, I felt hip hop was neglected by many due to Bollywood. That is when I came up with the concept of a non-profitable community event that could act as a stage for dancers across the city to express themselves and become a part of a larger community,” says Tewatia. “The event focuses not only on the dance form, but also features B-boying and Popping Battles, rap performances, jam sessions, live graffiti, workshops and a lot more.”

Apart from the activities and hip hop battles taking place at the event, one can also get a chance to witness world famous B-boy Ken Swift, master of popping Ricardo “Boogie Frantick” Rodriquez.Jr, and Bironnex, a world renowned hip hop dance DJ and Funk music producer amongst others. Tewatia feels that with the inclusion of such influential names from the industry, people would understand the dance form better, “There is a need for people to first understand hip hop beyond what mainstream media shows us it is. I believe that with that understanding, appreciation is bound to follow.”
