In the aftermath of its poor performance in the municipal elections, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken along with state affairs incharge PC Chacko on Thursday met party vice-president Rahul Gandhi to tender their resignations.

Sources said Gandhi had refused to accept their papers and asked them to continue till a decision is taken in this regard. “Gandhi did not accept their resignations. But, Maken and Chacko were not ready to change their decision, so he asked them to wait for a week,” a source said.
He further said the party will convene a meeting within week to review municipal elections results in which their resignations will also be discussed.
Following a crushing defeat in municipal polls on Wednesday, Maken and Chacko had announced their resignation taking responsibility for the defeat. “I could not meet my own expectations, so I am resigning. I will not take any post in the party for a year. I will submit my resignation to the Congress President and Vice President shortly,” he had said.
