No bar on admission to DU for those who dropped a year

The aspirants among the most nervous seem to be those who had taken a year off between Class 12 and college.

“My son had taken admission in DU last year in BA (prog) in a good college but dropped out because he wanted to study economics. This year, too, he is applying in the hope that he will get the subject. But we are sceptical as he had taken a year’s gap,” said Kapil Kumar, a parent.

Close to 54,000 DU seats are up for grabs this year. Of the several lakh applicants expected to make a beeline for the seats, only a small number may have dropped a year.

DU officials, however, said that while these students have nothing to worry about, as they would be treated on a par with other applicants. But they added that there was a rider attached to such admissions.

The officials further added that the students needed to furnish an affidavit claiming how they utilised the time or what they did in the period that they had taken a break. “Whether the child had medical problems or he was preparing for an entrance exam is immaterial. All that they need to do is file an affidavit saying that they had taken a break and it should be drawn in favour of the college they are seeking admission to,” Sawhney added.
