Manu Sharma, serving a life sentence at Tihar jail for killing model Jessica Lall at a party in 1999 because she turned down his demand for a drink, has been granted parole again.

The Delhi high court Wednesday granted Sharma five days out of prison, from November 21-25, to attend his brother’s wedding, but on the condition that he not visit any clubs or discos. He is also to spend that time only in Karnal and Ambala, where the wedding ceremonies are scheduled, said a senior Delhi police officer.

The last time Sharma was out on parole was for a month in September-October 2009, to be with his sick mother, he said. He got a month-long extension but during that period, he was found partying — and brawling — at Delhi’s most expensive nightclub, while his mother was seen at a promotional event in Chandigarh. A club fight finally led to Sharma’s parole being cancelled and after massive public uproar, he went back to jail.

“For all these years you have not reformed; you went to a night club and got into a brawl,” Justice VK Shali said on Wednesday.

A shocked Sabrina Lall, Jessica’s sister, said, “My sister can never come back to attend any family function, so why should her killer? We know what he did last time... I am surprised how he manages to get parole again and again.”
