Police play CDs showing Ghandy with Maoists in Nepal

Delhi Police on Thursday played several compact discs before a court in New Delhi to buttress its charges that arrested top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy was having links with the ultras in Nepal and had planned a Naxal attack.

Delhi Police Special Cell played the CDs before Additional Sessions Judge RK Gauba who is hearing the charges that may be framed against Ghandy, a Central Committee member of banned CPI (Maoist).

Special Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohan played CDs on a laptop to support the charges that Ghandy participated in a training programme in the Himalayan State in July 2006, besides participating in the training programme of Maoist People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Ghandy was also shown sitting with two fellow Maoist leaders Vimal and Basantha, both of whom hailed from Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, the participants in a programme planned an attack depicting pictures of maps.

One of the CDs also showed an attack being carried out at Magadh in Bihar in 2003. The CDs were being relied upon by the prosecutor in support of his arguments.

65-year-old Ghandy, an ideologue of the banned CPI (Maoist), has been booked on various charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the IPC after his arrest from the capital on September 20, 2009.

His associate Joshi, who had then escaped, was later apprehended from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

He is also facing the criminal proceedings along with Ghandy.
