Delhi police sought time from a court in New Delhi to conclude its probe against some policemen accused of acting in a partisan manner to screen the offenders in a case relating to the mysterious death of a man.

"We have started the investigation. Some more time is required to complete the investigation," a senior police officer told metropolitan magistrate Devender Kumar Jangla.

The court, which had earlier asked the Commissioner of Police (CP) to probe the role of the policemen, allowed the plea by the crime branch and fixed the matter for further hearing on November six.

Earlier, it had slammed some policemen for acting in a partisan manner to save the accused in connection with the death of Amit Sharma who allegedly committed suicide in 2006 after being harassed by his seniors of the company.

The police had submitted that the suicide note was not credible enough to proceed with the case and filed the probe report favouring end of the prosecution.

Sharma, employed with a private firm at Sangam Vihar in New Delhi, allegedly killed himself at his work place, leaving behind a suicide note which alleged he was being "tortured and cornered" by his seniors.
