Early Monday morning, Bunty and his accomplice Rajesh Sharma were gunned down at a godown owned by Mittal, the scion of Mittal Garden farmhouse who was arrested in April this year for allegedly hiring contract killers to kill his brother-in-law Arun Gupta.

Police said Mittal had given out a contract of Rs 10 lakh to eliminate his sister Sadhana and brother-in-law Arun Gupta. While Gupta was killed outside his house, Sadhana survived.

Police said they would be scrutinising the details of Mittal’s mulaqat sessions at the jail.

“We would be moving court to seek the remand of DK Mittal. He has to tell us how Bunty got access to his godown,” said a senior officer.

Drawing attention to the fact that Mittal also wanted to eliminate Sadhana, a police said: “There could be a possibility that Mittal got in touch with Bunty to carry out his unfinished plan. We would be approaching the jail authorities to know about his mulaqat details and people he met.”

Police said when they received information that Bunty and Rajesh were holed up in the godown, they were not aware about the details of the owner of the property.

“It was only after Bunty was killed in an encounter that the neighbours came out and told us that the godown belonged to DK Mittal,” the officer added.

Cracking Bunty’s codes

Delhi Police have submitted a diary recovered from Bunty’s hideout to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to unravel the mystery behind codes he used.

Bunty never used numbers to write any information instead he used a set of alphabets. Police said he never trusted anyone and maintained secrecy around all the operations he planned.

“We want to decipher the codes he used in the diaries. We have sought forensic help as it could snowball into something big. We do not know what these codes stand for and would be interesting to know,” said the officer.

Police said Bunty was trying to get in touch with several western Uttar Pradesh criminals, as he wanted to “spread his nexus”.

Haryana Police visit Delhi

Bunty was also involved in several murders in Faridabad, Panipat and Sonepat districts of Haryana.

Superintendent of Police, Panipat, and several other officers from Faridabad and Sonepat police met their counterparts in Delhi on Tuesday to get more details about Bunty.
