The eight-months pregnant Rakesh Lohia became the third pregnant woman to die of the viral disease in the capital.

The earlier two had died in Safdarjung hospital. Lohia, a resident of south Delhi, was transferred from Holy Family hospital to Lok Nayak hospital in a critical state on Saturday evening.

“She was already on ventilator when she was brought to our hospital. She died of respiratory failure early in the morning today (Tuesday),” said Dr Anjan Prakash, additional nodal officer for H1N1 in the city.

The city reported 98 confirmed cases of the disease on Tuesday, out of which 61 are children.

The total number of people affected with the disease in the city has reached 5,106 (including 2938 children).

More than 80 per cent affected with the flu have already been treated and discharged.

The setting of winters has caused a sudden spurt in H1N1 cases, but the state government has assured the situation is under control.
