According to DMRC officials, more than one lakh additional passengers travelled in metro in 2007.

While the usual ridership of the Metro network in August 2006 was about 6 lakh a day, it recorded a whopping 7.25 lakh passengers on Raksha Bandhan that year.

“In addition, one spare train will be kept on standby on each of the three metro lines to handle unexpected rush of passengers,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

More than 8 lakh passengers travel everyday by the metro train in Delhi and on Wednesday, 8.43 lakh people took to metro to avoid the chakka jam.

The DMRC will also deploy extra personnel to handle the load on the ticketing system on the day. More customer facilitation agents will be deployed to help commuters.

The Delhi Metro ridership has already increased substantially as the Metro carried 8,43,609 passengers yesterday, which is the maximum ridership achieved so far.

Free ride in DTC buses

As a Raksha Bandhan gift from the Delhi Chief Minister, women in the Capital will be able to enjoy a free ride in DTC buses on Raksha Bandhan day.

According to an announcement on Thursday, women can avail of this facility in all normal and low floor non-AC buses till 5 p.m. on Saturday.
