The gangrape on December 16 has once again raised the issue of women's security aboard public transport in the Capital.

Although DTC buses have long been considered unsafe by women, they claim that even the Metro is not a suitable alternative. "Although the Metro is safer than travelling by bus, I have been misbehaved with even inside a Metro station at isolated corners where security is lax. Others doubt the monitoring at Metro stations. "Although I prefer the Metro, I can't be sure that the CCTV cameras are actually working," said 22-year-old student Charusmita.

However, what has endeared the Metro to many women in the city is the recent addition of a women's only compartment.
