More than a week after former MP and leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly, VK Malhotra, wrote to Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan about problems faced by passengers, the latter has written back to Malhotra.

In his letter, the DMRC chief admitted there were some technical glitches in operations on the Noida-Dwarka stretch. “These are being looked into and remedial action is being taken,” Sreedharan wrote.

The DMRC chief wrote that, in recent months, with the services being extended, the number of commuters had increased.

Sreedharan admitted that there was a serious shortage of trains and DMRC was in the process of increasing the number of coaches. But he also wrote that with more lines getting commissioned, the shortage of trains would remain.

“We will meet it by judicious planning of services,” his letter states.

DMRC, which earlier imported trains, now procures them within the country.

“The trains manufactured in these units have already started arriving and these will be inducted into the system as and when they are received. DMRC has also placed orders for more number of trains. When new coaches are received our plan is to increase the number of coaches from four to six on some lines, reduce the time interval between trains and to increase the total number of trains on the system,” Sreedharan wrote.
