After over a week of allegedly receiving phone calls soliciting ‘obscene’ favours from ‘men and/or women of any age’, Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has registered a police complaint.

Swamy’s grouse, as per his complaint, stems from ‘hundreds’ of posters advertising an ‘Indigenous 24x7 Friendship Club’ that can be reached through seven phone numbers.

Three are mobile phone numbers, including the one used by his wife in Chennai, and four belong to land lines installed at his Nizamuddin residence.

Swamy could not be contacted for comments despite repeated attempts to do so. An aide close to him, however, confirmed that he had reported the matter to the police."On Wednesday, Swamy approached us with a complaint, stating that he had been getting unsolicited, and obscene, phone calls since November 27. According to him, these were generated due to posters stuck near his east Nizamuddin residence as well as the New Delhi Railway Station," said an officer, requesting anonymity

Sources said Swamy’s complaint stated that the posters in question, bearing a black and white mug-shot of a giggling blonde above his personal contact numbers, had been stuck in bulk overnight ‘on electric columns near the (Nizamuddin) petrol pump’ which lie within ‘300 metres of the Nizamuddin police station’ without being noticed.

A specimen picture of one of these was captured by Swamy with his own mobile phone after he stumbled upon them before providing it to the local police, sources claimed.

“Apart from alleging that these were stuck all over the city, Swamy expressed his apprehension that an all India organisation, reacting to his anti-corruption litigation activities, might be behind the seeming prank,” the officer said.

On their part, the Delhi Police registered a case under section 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the IPC as well as under the Delhi (Prevention) of Defacement Act.
