A special cell of the Delhi Police on Monday said they have arrested an alleged operative of the banned terror group Indian Mujahideen.

The accused, Mohammed Irfan(50), was arrested last week from Bharaich in western Uttar Pradesh, police said.

"He has worked for Indian Mujahideen (IM) and is wanted in several terror cases," special commissioner of police (Special Cell) SN Srivastava said.

Police said that Irfan was earlier a member of the Lashkar e Taiba and was involved in a series of bomb blasts across the country in the early 90's following the Babri Masjid demolition.

He was then arrested by the CBI and later convicted by a court. Irfan jumped parole in 2001 after serving 8 years in prison.

“After jumping parole, he continued to keep in touch with terror groups and had joined the Indian Mujahideen,” Srivastava said.
