Sharad Aggarwal Deputy Commissioner of Police West District said, “Satish Kumar Goyal, the assistant pharmacist and his associate Rajiv Kumar Goyal were arrested after an FIR lodged by the hospital authorities. We are also examining the role of other hospital employees in the matter.”

The president of the hospital, Ram Kumar Gupta said, “Goyal had opened an off line account through which he used to steal medicines. He used to take the medicine from storeroom showing that it was being sent to the patient whose off-line account he had opened. Earlier, the hospital was not fully computerised and so he was able to siphon off medicine without being caught.”

Gupta alleged that a senior pharmacist Vinod Kumar Goyal along with other employees - Amit, Raj Kumar and Kulwinder Singh were also involved in the matter.

“In the last week of January, Goyal stole medicines worth Rs 4 lakh in three days and resigned. Meanwhile, hospital’s operation theatre in-charge, LC Mathew, learned about the matter and informed the hospital authorities after which we informed the police and the duo were arrested,” added Gupta.

After stealing the medicines, the accused allegedly used to give them to Rajiv Kumar who further sold them in medical shops in Bhagirath Palace. Police recovered the stolen medicines worth Rs 60,000 from their possession. Police are also examining the role of Vinod Kumar, Amit, Raj Kumar and Kulwinder in the matter.

Satish belongs to Samalkha area in Haryana and was deputed as an assistant pharmacist in 2005. Since then he had been stealing the medicine. Police have booked the accused for criminal breach of trust.
