Wednesday saw season’s highest dengue cases

The city reported 39 dengue cases on Wednesday, the season’s highest in a single day, and 37 new cases on Thursday, taking the total number of mosquito-borne infection in the city to 796 this year. HT reports

The city reported 39 dengue cases on Wednesday, the season’s highest in a single day, and 37 new cases on Thursday, taking the total number of mosquito-borne infection in the city to 796 this year.

Out of the reported cases, seven belong to outside Delhi. Two people — a nine-year-old girl and a one-year-old girl —have succumbed to the disease to date.

The worst affected area in the city is the South zone with 105 cases reported so far, followed by Rohin zone that has reported 74 cases and the Central zone with 72 cases. Seventeen cases have also been reported from the New Delhi Municipal Council areas.

Six cases of chikungunya and nearly 250 malaria cases have also been reported from the city so far.

All hospitals in the city, be it private or government, are facing severe bed crunch owing to the high patient load. They have added extra beds to accommodate the rush. Almost all hospitals are getting 10-15 positive dengue cases daily.

In a recently held review meeting, the state health minister had directed the civic agencies to step up anti-mosquito measures. He asked the agencies to focus on water tanks placed on the roofs of high-rise buildings.
