Deposed Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC) secretary general Lalit Bhanot, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday, has been a familiar sports administrator for over two decades.

Bhanot has been the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) secretary general for over 15 years and stepped down before the Commonwealth Games. Co-incidentally sacked CGOC chairman Suresh Kalmadi resigned as the AFI president in 2006, but stayed on as the president of Asian Athletics Association.
Bhanot was a state-level thrower and physical education director of a Delhi college before becoming active in athletics. He has been the longest serving official of the AFI and Delhi Olympic Association, of which he is the joint secretary.
