£1.5mn fund to boost creative ties

There is exciting news for artists, cultural organisations and those with a creative bent of mind. The British Council and the Arts Council England have announced a £1.5million lottery fund to encourage creative ties between India and the UK.

There is exciting news for artists, cultural organisations and those with a creative bent of mind. The British Council and the Arts Council England have announced a £1.5million lottery fund to encourage creative ties between India and the UK.

Sajid Javid, UK secretary of state for culture, says, “Cultural relations between India and the UK are strong. They support each others’ rich heritages to collaboration in the creative industries. Their success is a testament to the openness of British society to talent from around the world.We want to encourage creative entrepreneurship and are open to welcome design ideas from India. The initiative will reach artists, communities and entrepreneurs and will also encourage them to invest in the UK. We are also looking at encouraging Indian museums to exchange ideas with UK museums.”

A scheme called Re-Imagine India will give British artists and art organisations opportunities to work on collaborations and cultural exchanges with their Indian counterparts.

The scheme will give grants of £15,000 to £100,000 to support projects which promote creative collaborations, showcase the best of UK and Indian arts across a range of art forms and activity, reach beyond the UK’s major cities and India’s metropolitan areas and connect British and Indian artists with diaspora communities in the UK.
