The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to announce the admission results for MPhil and PhD courses for this year except the five per cent seats for students with disability.
A bench of acting chief justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar frowned upon the fact that the university had held back the results for all the seats despite orders that the entire process should not be stalled.
“Why have you not declared results? We had not restrained the university from declaring other results. You are bound to declare the results. The authorities are directed to declare the results on the website forthwith,” the bench said. It asked the JNU counsel if stalling the declaration of results didn’t amount to wrong practice.
On April 18, the court had directed JNU to withhold admissions to the five per cent unfilled seats for students with disability for MPhil and PhD courses.
The court was hearing a plea filed by the National Federation of the Blind, which challenged the varsity’s admission policy. The federation said it was unfair on the part of JNU to give 100 per cent weightage to viva voce.

Meanwhile, students interested in the field of research filed an intervention petition. They claimed the varsity was not declaring the entire results, saying the matter was sub judice.
Appearing for JNU, the central government’s standing counsel Monika Arora told the court that the results had been brought to the court and had not been declared. Arora said the varsity’s policy was in pursuance with UGC regulations. The court said the rest of the results should be published on the website and posted the matter for further hearing till September 25.
