Imperial College London, one of the oldest and renowned UK institution, is launching two India specific fellowships this year.
The Imperial College India Foundation PhD Scholarships (ICIFS) would be announced in a few days and would be jointly funded by the Imperial College and its illustrious Indian alumni.
Cyrus Mistry, the successor at the vast Tata group, is one among the over 650 Indian alumnus(Civil Engineering, 1990) of the College. Over 220 students are pursuing various courses, at present.
The PhD fellowships will be in the field of engineering and business. It will be of three years duration, during which £ 40, 000 will be paid annually.
"There is a good response from the alumni to the idea of these fellowships. In fact, I learnt, it was a collective decision of the College and Indian alumni," Dr Simon Buckle, pro-rector for international relations, Imperial College told HT on sidelines of the UK-India Education and Research Initiative conference on skills development here.
"We plan to increase the number next year," Buckle added.
The Imperial College Business School had recently announced the Rajiv Gandhi Centre Scholarships (post graduate level) for Indian citizens to pursue the Imperial MBA. It will start from October 2012.
