Look closer. The person at the admission help desk from whom you sought advice could well be an ex-DUSU president. This year, student leaders are coming to the forefront to help applicants tide over admission worries.

DUSU President Nupur Sharma, whose personal cellphone number is printed on the bulletin board of the DUSU office, said, “I’ve been helping student volunteers battle applicant queries at the Kirori Mal college (KMC) help desk for a week. Now I’m off to other neglected campuses to help freshers. The bulletin board has my personal number so students can directly call me in case they have any problems with the admission process. They call me asking, ‘Where do I get this form from and how do I fill this particular box’.”

Nupur isn’t the only responsible soul around. One of the most popular faces of DU in recent years, too, has resurfaced. No matter how scorching the heat is, former president Ragini Nayak, an NSUI member, doesn’t mind manning the help desk in KMC. This being her last year as a student, Ragini is leaving no stone unturned in helping new joinees. “I’ve always been accessible to them,” she said. Of course, there are political interests too.
