The results for the Class 10 or Secondary school leaving certificate (SSLC) and the Class 12 (Arts) or higher secondary school-leaving certificate (HSSLC - Arts) examinations will be declared at 10am on Tuesday, TR Laloo, the controller of examinations of MBoSE confirmed.

A reason for the optimism is the sizeable increase in the number of candidates who appeared for the Class 10 and Class 12 (Arts) exams held earlier this year. A total of 52,100 candidates sit for the SSLC exam this year compared to 50,126 last year.

The SSLC pass percentage in 2016 was 54.10%, which Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) officials said was less than satisfactory.

The jump in the number of candidates for HSSLC (Arts) has been higher – 26,890 this time compared to 21,183 last year.

Similarly for HSSLC (Commerce), the performance jumped by 1.27% to 71.87% on the back of 110 more candidates than the 2,184 last year.

“All heads of institutes and officers in charge of SSLC and HSSLC examination centres have been told to collect the results from the MBoSE offices in Shillong, Tura and Jowai,” Laloo said.

The headquarters of MBoSE is in Tura, the largest urban centre of the western half of Meghalaya dominated by the Garo tribe.
