For all budding pharmacologists, the Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (DIPSAR) is a great place to pursue their dreams. Ranked as one of the top colleges in pharmaceutical studies, DIPSAR is striving towards providing quality pharmacists to the industry.
“Our college provides us with very good facilities and infrastructure required for the course. We have access to modern equipments and specialised laboratories needed for research,” says Sarita Verma, who is studying MPharma in quality assistance. With a strength of approximately 600 students pursuing various courses, the college also boasts of excellent placements. “We are constantly in touch with the leading national and multinational pharmaceutical firms, and also carry out a number of research programmes,” says Dr DP Pathak, director of the college.
USP: The college is affiliated to the University of Delhi, making it very affordable for the students. But that does not, in any way, affect the quality of education provided here. “A number of national and international conferences, seminars and workshops are organised every now and then, and we also get to participate in many others,” says Vikas Verma, an MPharma student.
The institute has also received grants for various research projects. The ongoing 10 PhD research projects include studies on ocular formulations, infections and their cures, alternate herbal pharmaceuticals, and 15 MPharma research projects. Four PhD theses and 16 MPharma theses conducted by various professors and research scholars have been submitted. DIPSAR also has an Institutional Animal Ethical Committee and an Institutional Ethical Committee (Clinical- IRB).
Programmes: DIPSAR offers diploma, bachelor’s and master’s in eight diciplines and PhD courses in pharmacy. The number of students they admit in every academic session is limited, thus the competition is very high. Students doing MPharma and PhD are also involved in the 25 research projects initiated by the institution.
Infrastructure: The campus is located close to the Saket Metro station. Spread over a 10-acre campus, DIPSAR has well- equipped and air-conditioned laboratories, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 450, an animal house, a girls and a boys hostel, a gymnasium, staff quarters, and about 20 laboratories, which are all fully air-conditioned. The institute also has a new nine-floor building coming up, which will have an entire floor dedicated to each of the master’s in pharmacy disciplines.
It is also one of the very few colleges in Delhi University to have a swimming pool. The institute also has a museum that has many educative and anatomical models. The medicinal herbal garden in the campus is used by MPharma and PhD students working on herbal projects, for growing plants to use in their experiments. A 1000 square foot animal house has provisions for washing and autoclaving area, a raw material room for animal feed and a feed preparation room.

Faculty: DIPSAR is the only college in the country to have its faculty recruited through a Union Public Service Commission examination.
IT Factor: The college has an information technology centre with about 25 up-to-date computer systems equipped with the latest software. All the major research labs, faculty rooms, administration departments etc have a 24-hour local area network (LAN) connectivity.
Library: The library at the institute is fully air-conditioned and houses about 18,000 books, some of which are very rare. It is the biggest pharmacy library in northern India. They have subscribed to e-journals from Science Direct, courtesy Delhi University, and a number of journals.
