The West Bengal board declared the exam results of Class 12 students on Friday. There has been a sharp rise in the overall pass percentage this year.

The West Bengal board declared the exam results of Class 12 students on Friday. There has been a sharp rise in the overall pass percentage this year.

One of the significant features of this year's results was high marks scored by the students, a fact that the board authorities attributed to the exam switching to the MCQ question mode.

The pass percentage stood at 82.38%, far higher than the 78.42% of last year. While 82.96% of the male students passed, among the females the pass rates stood at 81.80%.

The first four positions went to Narendrapur Ramkrishna Mission. While Billoshiv Basu Mullick stood first with 99.2% marks, Sheikh Manirul Mondal and Mrinmoy Roy
stood second and third respectively with 98.2% and 97.8% marks.

The first girl to appear on the merit list was a student from Arambag Girl's high school with 96.6%. Nilasha Ghosh from Jadavpur Vidyapith stood first in the humanities stream with 96.2%.

"There was a frequent complaint that our system didn't allow high marks. But we have switched to a MCQ and short question mode that has allowed high marks," said the board president Mohua Das.

This year while 2,710 students passed in the A+ grade (90-100% marks), a manifold jump from last year's number of 710.

In A grade (80 to 89% ) 31,521 students qualified while the number was 12,003 last year. As many as 80,326 student passed in the (70 to 79%) grade that was only 3,9403 in 2014.

The districts where more than 90% of the students passed were East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Hooghly, Howrah and Kolkata.
