West Bengal govt set to recruit 19,000 teachers through SSC

With the election commission expected to announce the dates of the upcoming Assembly elections within a few weeks, the state government has come up with a notification to recruit about 19,000 teachers in government-aided schools throughout the state.

The West Bengal Central School Service Commission (SSC) will hold its first State Level Selection Test (SLST) soon.

On Tuesday, SSC, as the commission is popularly known, released a notification regarding the same. Around 19,000 vacancies of assistant teachers in government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools will be filled though the exam. The highest number of vacancies is for mathematics teachers (3,114), followed by biology (2,187), English (1,763), chemistry (1,787) and Bengali (1,090). While the vacancies for general subjects add up to 15,947, there are 1,019 vacancies for work education and 1,237 for physical education.

Though the date of the exam is yet to be announced, candidates have been asked to apply between February 19 and March 15. This is the first time SSC is recruiting teachers for classes IX to XII. So far recruitments have taken place for filling up vacancies till class VIII.
