Tamil Nadu Election: Virugampakkam Assembly Constituency 2022

Virugampakkam is the assembly constituency which comes under the Chennai district. It is one of the 232 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 for Virugampakkam was held on April 6 and the result was declared on May 2.

In Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2016, there were 2,86,046 registered voters for Virugampakkam assembly seat, out of which 1,44,327 were male and 1,41,652 were female voters. 1.4% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

What happened last time

In 2016, 20 candidates were contesting for Virugampakkam assembly constituency seat. Virugampakkam was one of 134 seats won by the Dravida Munetra Kazhagam. It was a close contest with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's V.N.Virugai Ravi winning the election upstaging Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's K Thanasekaran by a margin of just 2,333 votes.

The top three candidates split 88.9% of votes between them. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's V.N.Virugai Ravi got a total of 65,979 votes, while Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's K Thanasekaran secured 63,646 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate Tamiliasi Soundrarajan.Dr grabbed the third spot with 19,167 votes. The top three parties got 39.4%, 38.0% and 11.4% respectively.

In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam's Partha Sarathy B defeated Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Thanasekaran K by 14,094 votes.
