As voting began in the morning, long queues started form outside polling stations where polling will continue till 6.30 pm.(Twitter.com/ANI)

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee appealed for calm after reports of violence emerged from a polling station in in Sitalkuchi. "I would ask everyone to remain calm and cast their vote peacefully. Avenge the deaths by defeating them," Banerjee said at a public meeting.(Twitter.com/ANI)

The voting is underway amid tight security arrangements. As many as 789 companies of central armed police forces (CAPF) have been deployed to guard 15,940 polling stations. (PTI)

All India Trinamool Congress on Saturday said Central Forces opened fire twice at polling booths in Cooch Behar where people are casting their votes, killing at least four party workers, news agency PTI reported.(PTI)

Total 44 seats including nine seats in Howrah district, 11 in South 24 Parganas, five in Alipurduar, nine in Cooch Behar and 10 in Hooghly, are holding polls on Saturday. It is being held amid strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols.(PTI)
